Castration is the surgical removal of the testicles under anaesthetic. Castrating your animal will reduce his need to wander if he detects a female on season, which will reduce his risk of being hit by a car or impounded. As an added benefit, dogs who are castrated are at much lower risk of developing prostate problems and tumours around their anus, as well as testicular diseases.
Castrations are day procedures at our clinic, please call to arrange a day for him to come in. We ask that animals be starved overnight before a procedure so as to have an empty stomach, to reduce the risk of complications with the anaesthetic. For rabbits, please discuss special feeding requirements when booking. They are generally able to go home in the evening.
