About us

The Niddrie Veterinary Clinic was established in the late 60's by Dr Tom Hart  (now retired) when Niddrie was a semi-rural suburb . So a normal working day for the vet in those early days involved dogs and cats in the mornings, a few farm and horse stud visits during lunchtimes followed by more dogs and cats in the afternoon and evenings. The current purpose-built clinic replaced the Niddrie Quarry's Manager's house in the early 70's. Since then the Clinic has progressed from a one person practice to a two fulltime and one part-time veterinarians companion animal practice.

We are located at 577 Keilor Road Niddrie, next to the Calder Freeway about 500 metres north of the Niddrie Shopping Strip. The clinic is easily accessed from the Western Ring Road and Calder and Tullamarine Freeways (see map under "contact us " link)

Consultations generally run between 9.00-11.30am  and 4.00-7.00pm Monday to Fridays, 9.00am-3.00pm  Saturdays and 9.00-10.00am Sundays. For emergencies or for a more convenient time for you and your pet, we are happy to accomodate your needs between these times. Please phone 9379 8913 for an appointment. We are happy to see all manner of pets from cats and dogs to birds, rabbits, and exotics. Wildlife cases are welcome also.

We offer a wide range of services including  annual healthcare checks, vaccinations, microchipping, dental care, desexing, surgery including cryosurgery, radiology and dietary and parasite control advice. Puppy pre-school classes are conducted here on Sunday afternoons.

If your pet needs emergency care when the Niddrie Veterinary Clinic is closed, the Animal Accident Emergency, a 24/7 after-hours Veterinary Hospital is located at the Essendon Airport. Other after hour hospitals for emergencies after 7.00pm include the Veterinary Clinical Centre University of Melbourne, Princes Highway, Werribee and the Bundoora Veterinary Hospital, Plenty Road, Bundoora.

When a patient with an illness needs more specialised services or techniques such as CT scans, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), endoscopy or ultrasounds we are in close contact with a wealth of Veterinary Specialists including those involved in cancer medicine and surgery, eye, skin, general medicine and surgery disciplines.

If you wish to discuss any pet health issues please feel free to phone the clinic to raise them with any of our friendly and helpful staff.

Surgery

Our Veterinarians perform numerous surgical procedures each month. Apart from routine dog, cat and rabbit desexings we engage in many soft tissue procedures, particularly lump removals and dental treatments. More complicated orthopaedic work such as dislocating kneecap surgery and cruciate surgery and soft tissue surgeries such as foreign body  and abdominal exploratory laparotomies are performed on a regular basis. All surgeries and procedures performed with a general anaesthetic have an assistant present throughout each procedure ensuring your pet's anaesthetic is monitored very carefully.
